In short
An early demo where players gather equipment and navigate a boat downstream to reach the end of a course.
Review
I really wanted to like this one because it looks great and has a wonderful atmosphere. The essence of the game is there, and visually, I found it quite nice. Players start by gathering equipment such as backpacks, helmets, or boat repair kits before dragging their boat into the water to head downstream. The goal is to navigate through gates and reach the end of the path. However, I spent almost my entire time fighting the controls. It was an absolute struggle. Rowing involves clicking for forward movement and using the alt key to go backward. There are also different rowing styles available, including a realistic mode and an arcade mode. Even with these options, it just didn't feel natural to me. I found myself constantly forgetting to press alt or getting stuck because the steering isn't responsive enough. The amount of speed picked up far outweighs the cornering ability, making it incredibly hard to steer around logs in the water.
I also felt that having too many things to manage at once, like the mouse not following the boat, added to the frustration. I had a few confusing moments with items too; for instance, I accidentally exploded a syringe (turned out I actually triggered some dynamite) and struggled with how to put items back into my inventory.
Ultimately, I am 50/50 on this. I love the concept and the world it creates, but the clunky controls are a major hindrance. It feels like I have to make ten moves just to complete one turn, which isn't fun for me. If the developers can dumb down the controls or make them more intuitive, this could be something really special. As it stands, it is just too frustrating for me to get into. But hey, maybe you're better at controlling the boat than me?
